LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered) Caucus

The new logo for the LGBT Caucus of CHF Canada was adopted at the 1999 AGM in St. John’s, Newfoundland; it was designed by Craig Hunter (Bread and Roses Co‑operative Inc., Kitchener, Ont).

The logo consists of three LGBT symbols and one co‑op symbol.

The first LGBT symbol used is the current six-colour gay pride flag (bound by the triangles), adopted in 1979. It is a symbol of gay pride and diversity and is recognized by the International Congress of Flag Makers.

The pink and black triangles were used during World War II to identify lesbians and gay men in concentration camps. These symbols have since been reclaimed by the lesbian and gay communities as empowerment images.

The background for the logo is the seven-colour co‑operative housing flag. It was adopted in 1925 as an official symbol for the international co‑operative movement.

Housing co‑ops walk with pride

Housing co‑op members were active in Gay Pride events across Canada this summer. CHF Canada and the Co‑operative Housing Federation of BC participated in the Vancouver Pride Parade.
