Leadership Renewal Project

Bulletin #1 – May, 2008

Did you ever wonder why co-op members run for the board of their regional federation or CHF Canada?  Who gets involved?  Who doesn’t and why?  And who will be our leaders in the future? This month marks the launching of CHF Canada’s new project to develop a leadership renewal program.  In many ways our sector is at a crossroads. We need a plan for the future that ensures that the leaders of CHF Canada and regional federations of housing co-ops reflect the diversity of the people who live in housing co-ops

We’ll be looking at our current practices, identifying barriers and ways we can encourage new people to become involved.   By the end of the project we’ll have a plan of action that will include a long-term plan for the recruitment and training of new leaders.

Our project consultants are the YES Resolution Group Inc.  They’ll carry out research and a consultation with our current leaders on regional and national boards and committees including CHF Canada’s Board of Directors, the Ontario Council and Advisory groups and the boards of regional federations.  The consultation will involve a series of surveys over a few months.  The first survey will be circulated in mid-May.

At the annual meeting, CHF Canada’s members will also have a chance to be involved in the project.  Information about how to participate will be available at the CHF Canada Diversity table.
