![]() Many housing co‑ops, especially those larger than about 20 units, have staff to ensure that core business tasks are completed on schedule. Such tasks may include receiving housing charges, paying bills, banking, bookkeeping, co-ordinating move-ins and move-outs, maintenance management and reporting to government as required. Staff also work with volunteers to support a vibrant community life within the co‑op. Some co‑ops sign contracts with organizations that offer these services as part of a flexible package. Others hire staff directly. CHF Canada has developed tools and training to help build a sound partnership between co‑ops in their role as employers and staff in their role as employees. Staff in housing co‑operatives sometimes combine to form incorporated associations or more casual networking groups. Staff associations offer their members mutual support, shared information and a range of services that may include training and legal advice. These organizations fund their work through annual member dues and fees for educational or other services. Staff associations represent their members at the regional and national levels by active membership in regional co‑op housing federations and CHF Canada. These organizations also elect a co‑op employee to a position on the Council of CHF Canada's Ontario Region. CHF Canada's membership now includes six staff associations. They can be reached by mail, fax, phone or E-mail.
