Federal election on October 14

A federal election has been called for October 14. Housing co-op members are making their voices heard about housing issues in this campaign.

And even before the election, housing co-ops have been actively advocating for more affordable housing for people in need.

SEP 23  Meet and Greet events in various ridings across the country are being set up to give co-op members a chance to ask their local candidates important questions about what they and their parties plan to do about the desperate need for affordable housing. 

Canada's Housing Co-ops Welcome Housing Plan in Liberal Platform

SEP 22  Canada's housing co-operative members welcomed measures in the Liberal platform to tackle Canada's affordable housing crisis by providing 30,000 new social housing units, refurbishing others, and providing additional subsides to house more families within the existing co-op programs. Conservative housing announcement big step forward for those in core need

SEP 18  The announcement of $1.9 billion in funding to support housing and homelessness programs is a big step in helping those living in core housing need, the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada said today. Media Release

Co-ops welcome Liberal commitments on energy retrofits and promise of more housing announcements

SEP 12  Liberal leader Stéphane Dion’s promised funds to help co-op members and other Canadians renovate their homes to conserve energy. In a discussion with housing co-op members, the Liberal leader also promised to reveal his plans for social and co-op housing later in the campaign.
