Federal Election Tips & Tools

How you can help

Here are some things you can do to help get more affordable housing and give some hope to the 4 million Canadians who need affordable homes:

  • Put up election posters and flyers in your co-op.
  • Send an e-mail or letter to the candidates expressing your point of view, or call their campaign to tell them why new co-op housing is important to you. Ask about the candidate’s views on co-op housing.
  • Encourage others in your co-op to send a letter too.
  • Make sure your co-op members know how to get registered to vote.
  • Offer to drive co-op members to the polls on election day.
  • Offer babysitting and other help so members of your co-op can vote.
  • Question candidates or their workers when they come to your door.
  • Attend all-candidates’ meetings in your riding and ask questions.
  • Meet with candidates in their campaign office.
  • Arrange tours of housing co-ops for candidates.
  • Invite candidates to an event in your co-op and ask neighbouring co-ops to join you.
  • Vote for candidates who will support co-op housing issues.

Get more involved. Contact your local co-ordinator or regional federation to find out what co-ops in your area are doing.
