Thinking of running for the Ontario Council?

Here are some things you might want to know.

Roles and responsibilities of Ontario Council Members

The Ontario Council directs the work of CHF Canada’s Ontario Region.

The Ontario Region is the voice of co‑op housing with the Ontario provincial and municipal governments. It deals with matters that have a provincial focus or affect only Ontario members.

The Ontario Council is accountable to CHF Canada’s Ontario membership. A Council member elected by a regional or sectoral group of the Ontario members should communicate the views of this group to Council and make sure the group understands Council’s. But the Council member is accountable to the Ontario members as a whole, not to the electoral group.

Candidates for the Ontario Council must meet the qualifications set out in the Ontario Region Operating Rules. Some positions have special qualifications in addition to the qualifications that all Council members must meet. A Council member must be a person of ability, experience, judgment and integrity. Each Council Member must sign an Ethical Conduct Agreement.

Four Council members take on officer roles as President, Vice-Presidents, and Treasurer. You can find full job descriptions for the Ontario Council and Member of the Ontario Council, the Ontario Region Operating Rules and minutes of Council meetings on this Web site. Ontario Council members serve a two-year term and can be re-elected for up to three consecutive years.
