Supporting co-ops as employers

CHF Canada supports the development of resources for co‑op staff and the boards that employ them. Most of these are published and sold through the Co‑op Housing Bookstore.

You, Your Staff and the Law is a regularly updated guide for boards and staff about provincial employment rules. Guides are available in English for British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario. A guide is available in French for Ontario.

Managing Arrears is a useful resource for staff who deal with housing charge arrears. It suggests processes for managing arrears and provides a model arrears by-law.

Housing Co‑ops as Employers is a small flyer offering practical ideas to help boards, members and staff become a better team.

Employing staff is a big responsibility, because it affects other people’s lives. Our guide Evaluating Staff is meant to help co‑ops meet this responsibility by giving them better tools to assess their staff. We think co‑op boards that use this guide will be more effective employers. And it will help staff improve the way they work and build partnerships with their co‑op employers.

Dealing with Discrimination and Harassment in the Workplace is a guide which includes a model policy/by-law that can help co‑ops deal with issues of discrimination and harassment in co‑op workplaces.

More information on these resources is available from Karla Skoutajan at 1.800.465.2752, extension 241, or email.
