CHF Canada’s Risk Management Kit

Keep Your Housing Co‑op Safe and Secure

Your co‑op can manage and reduce the risks that lead to injured members, damaged property, and insurance claims. The best way to do this is with a committed group of members called a risk management team.

CHF Canada and The Co‑operators have worked together to provide risk management information and training for our members. We analyzed the claims experience of the co‑ops in our commercial insurance program over a five-year period.

Here’s what we found out:

  • There were four major causes of the most frequent and most expensive claims – fire damage, water damage, personal and financial security, and bodily injury.
  • That 25% of these claims were caused by members.
  • That most of these claims could have been prevented!

To set up your risk management team to prevent accidents leading to injury, damage and insurance claims, follow the steps outlined in CHF Canada’s Risk Management Kit. It includes step-by-step guidelines for each of the major claims areas and information on how to report and settle insurance claims quickly.
