Elections at CHF Canada’s 2001 annual meeting

One of the more important events at CHF Canada’s annual meeting is the election of the Board of Directors. Members elect a Board to direct the federation between annual meetings.

CHF Canada’s Board is made up of regional directors, a director representing the aboriginal community and five directors elected at large. Directors serve a two-year term and half of the Board is elected each year.

This year, the following incumbent directors were elected for another term:

  • Laine Braden, Saskatchewan
  • René Daoust, Quebec/Nunavut
  • Susan Wells, Nova Scotia
  • Heather Ramsay, Prince Edward Island
  • Vince Hall, at large
  • Patricia Matthews, at large.

Three new directors were elected at the annual meeting:

  • Isabel Evans is a member of Granville Gardens Housing Co‑op in Richmond, British Columbia. She is a former president of the Co‑operative Housing Federation of B.C. She was elected in an at-large position.
  • David Howard, a director at-large, is a member of Tabby Town co‑op in Stoney Creek, Ontario. He is a member of the board of the Golden Horseshoe Co‑operative Housing Federation.
  • Emil van der Poorten is CHF Canada’s new regional director for Alberta and the Northwest Territories. He is a member of Integra housing co‑op in Edmonton, Alberta and an active member of CHF Canada’s diversity committee.

Thanks to retiring directors

At this year’s AGM CHF Canada said goodbye to two hard-working directors. Debbie Saidman has been CHF Canada’s director for Alberta and the Northwest Territories for six years. Gary Panagiotidis, who is also president of the Co‑operative Housing Federation of B.C. has been director at-large for the past two years. CHF Canada would like to thank them very much for their service on the Board of Directors. They will still be in touch often however as both will continue to be active in other volunteer roles, Debbie as a member of the Political Action Review Committee and Gary as a member of our agency negotiating committee.
