CHF Canada’s strength is in our membership. At this year’s annual meeting we thanked those housing co‑ops who had belonged to CHF Canada for 20 years or more. We have all benefited from working together over the past 20 years. We’re looking forward to many more years of co‑operation. The following housing co‑ops received their awards at the Saturday evening presentation:
Other co‑ops were not able to receive their awards at the annual meeting. We are arranging presentations for them in their region at a later date.
Thom Armstrong, Executive Director of the Co‑operative Housing Federation of BC, was named honorary lifetime associate of CHF Canada. In his long involvement with co‑op housing, Thom developed co‑ops in Saskatchewan and Ontario, was a CHF Canada instructor and an active member of the education committee. He has also served on the Board of CHF Canada and of the Co‑operative Housing Association of Ontario, which later became CHF Canada’s Ontario Region. Thom spent 10 years as CHF Canada’s Director of Corporate Affairs, before joining CHF BC in 2000.
Betty Ann Baker was presented with the CMHC Award for Outstanding Contribution to Co‑op Housing on Friday afternoon at the AGM business meeting. Betty Ann is the executive director of Niagara Peninsula Homes, a resource group that has developed numerous housing co‑operatives. Working with a group of other women, she started Niagara Presents, which provides a market for local produce and employment for women in the community. Congratulations, Betty Ann! |
