 CHF Canada founded and continues to support Rooftops Canada /Abri international, an international development organization. Rooftops’s goal is to improve housing conditions and build sustainable communities in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe. Rooftops Canada works in partnership with local groups to help them meet the long-term housing needs of their communities. Its work is made possible through funding from CHF Canada and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), and donations and support from housing groups and individuals. Rooftops Canada's other Canadian partners include the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association, the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association, the British Columbia Non-Profit Housing Association and the New Brunswick Non-Profit Housing Association. Getting involved with Rooftops Canada In Canada, Rooftops Canada calls on individuals and co‑ops and other non-profit housing groups to explore together how they can make a difference. Partnerships Rooftops Canada encourages links between Canadian groups and overseas partners. Technical assignments On request from overseas partners, Rooftops Canada provides short- and long-term technical assistance, delivered by Canadians with appropriate skills. Sharing experience Representatives from Rooftops Canada's partners visit Canada to share information and experience with the Canadian co‑op and non-profit housing sectors. Education in Canada A Canada-wide network of local committees supports the work of Rooftops Canada by helping to host trainees, recruit technical assistants and raise awareness of Rooftops Canada. Join the local committee in your area, or, if there is none, call Rooftops Canada for copies of current publications and spread the word yourself. Donations, large and small, are welcome. Youth internships Rooftops Canada co-ordinates a youth internship program that provides overseas work opportunities for young professionals. International Co‑operative Alliance (ICA) Housing CHF Canada is a member of this international group that works to develop sustainable human communities founded on co‑operative principles and values. |
