What is FÉCHIMM?

FECHIMM was founded in 1983 to assist and represent housing cooperatives on the Island of Montreal. Since 2004, it has expanded its operation to the Laval and Basses-Laurentides territories. At the moment, 434 housing cooperatives with close to 10,000 households are members of the Federation.

How does FECHIMM work?

FECHIMM is controled by a board of directors of nine members. A team of more than 30 employees provides services to the cooperatives and to those seeking a cooperative housing unit.

• Telephone counseling service to the members on many different aspects of cooperative life
• Financial management and bookkeeping
• Property management
• Management of the associative life
• Education (more than 20 workshops on 7 great aspects of cooperative life)
• Help in implementing energy efficiency measures
• Building inspection
• Local bank of applicants for the cooperatives in the private non-profit program (PSBL-P), created for low income clientele.
• Development fund
• Cooperative Investment Program

FECHIMM, in collaboration with the CQCH, manages the operating agreements of certain housing cooperatives with the Société d'habitation du Québec. It also actively participates in the nationwide lobbying activities organized by the CHFC, along with those organized in Quebec by the CQCH.
