What is the Lakeridge Co-operative Housing Federation?

Lakeridge was founded in 1988 under another name to serve and represent the housing co-operatives of Peterborough and Durham Region. There are 10 Lakeridge member co-ops.

How is Lakeridge run?

Lakeridge is governed by a board of eight directors who generally meet monthly. The federation employs one part-time staff member.

Services

Lakeridge’s member co-operatives receive the following services as a benefit of membership:

  • A newsletter
  • Advice given over the phone
  • Chairing of difficult meetings
  • CHIP, a banking pool for member housing co-operatives, allowing a co-operative to earn a higher rate of interest on funds that pass through its account each month
  • On-site consultation
  • Resource library
  • Co-op Cost Cutters

For an extra fee, Lakeridge also provides community development, conflict mediation, and workshops on co-operative management and co-operative living presented by CHF Canada trained educators.

Lakeridge takes part in the lobbying activities organized nationally by CHF Canada. A board member represents the association at CHF Canada’s Federations Committee.
