What is the Lakeridge Co‑operative Housing Federation?

Lakeridge was founded in 1988 under another name to serve and represent the housing co‑operatives of Peterborough and Durham Region. There are 10 Lakeridge member co‑ops.

How is Lakeridge run?

Lakeridge is governed by a board of eight directors who generally meet monthly. The federation employs one part-time staff member.

Services

Lakeridge’s member co‑operatives receive the following services as a benefit of membership:

  • A newsletter
  • Advice given over the phone
  • Chairing of difficult meetings
  • CHIP, a banking pool for member housing co‑operatives, allowing a co‑operative to earn a higher rate of interest on funds that pass through its account each month
  • On-site consultation
  • Resource library
  • Co‑op Cost Cutters

For an extra fee, Lakeridge also provides community development, conflict mediation, and workshops on co‑operative management and co‑operative living presented by CHF Canada trained educators.

Lakeridge takes part in the lobbying activities organized nationally by CHF Canada. A board member represents the association at CHF Canada’s Federations Committee.
