What is the Southern Alberta Co-operative Housing Association (SACHA)?

SACHA was founded in 1989 to serve and represent the housing co-operatives of southern Alberta, particularly Calgary. There are nearly 20 SACHA members – all also members of CHF Canada. SACHA provides a range of services to members and the general public.

SACHA takes an active part in the lobbying activities organized nationally by CHF Canada. A staff member represents the association at CHF Canada’s Federations Committee.

How is SACHA run?

SACHA is governed by a board of five directors. The federation employs three part-time staff members.

Services

SACHA’s member co-operatives receive the following services as a benefit of membership:

  • Advice given over the phone
  • Advocacy
  • Bulk-buying of office supplies
  • SACHIP, a banking pool for member housing co-operatives, allowing a co-operative to earn a higher rate of interest on funds that pass through its account each month
  • General public inquiries
  • Liaison with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation
