Judge gives co-op more time to defend itself from York Region takeover

MAY 29, 2008  About 60 co-op members and supporters rallied in front of a Toronto court house today in support of Thornhill Green Co-op. Co-op members are fighting the attempt by York Region to force the sale of the co-op to its own housing company.

CHF Canada and Thornhill Green have joined together in a legal challenge of York’s action. Murray Klippenstein, representing both parties, asked Judge Colin Campbell to put off the court hearing to give him more time to prepare a response. The co-op learned about York Region’s plans less than two weeks before the court date. Judge Campbell gave the parties until June 11 to file legal papers opposing the sale.
